What is Emotionally Focused Therapy?

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is what Carol often calls emotional heart surgery. Rather than simply focusing on issues at the surface, EFT helps couples and individuals get to the heart of the matter—our need for emotional safety, closeness, and secure attachment.

EFT is a research-backed approach based on attachment theory proven to be highly effective in reducing conflict, rebuilding trust, and deepening emotional intimacy. Additionally, its benefits are innumerable when individuals and couples are dealing with anxiety, depression, OCD, addictions, etc., by strengthening the emotional bond between partners. helping them identify and understand the patterns that keep them stuck in conflict or disconnection.

Through this process, partners learn to express deeper emotions, respond to each other with empathy, and create new, more connected ways of relating.

For individuals, EFT digs deep into your internal dynamic to promote powerful change in your mood, thoughts and actions-deep change that lasts to change your life!

What topics can we discuss in Emotionally Focused Therapy?

EFT is an experiential model of therapy. While we talk in EFT to improve your lives, EFT seeks to create a more “settled” internal experience which helps you more effectively solve your own problems. When we are stressed and/or disconnected, our body’s stress response disables our “thinking brain” — we literally can’t think clearly! Attachment science tells us that we can solve problems effectively when we’re connected internally and with loved ones. It’s amazing!

EFT can help people battling with problems such as: depression, trauma, addictions, infidelity, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), surviving abuse, abandonment, alcohol use, anger management, attachment issues, blended families, communication issues, emotional disturbance, family conflict, loneliness, anger management, anxiety, cancer, divorce, domestic violence, drug abuse, eating disorders, family conflict, grief, highly sensitive people, inter-faith marriages, multicultural concerns, perfectionism, and self esteem. Emotional stability is life-changing.

Whether you’re facing something specific or just feeling stuck and overwhelmed, EFT therapy is the perfect place to start healing.

Are my therapy sessions able to be billed to my health insurance?

Sessions are not billed to health insurance directly. However, if your insurance plan includes out-of-network benefits, a “super bill” can be requested from Carol as you may be able to receive reimbursement for a portion of your sessions.

It is a good idea to check with your insurance company about your out-of-network mental health coverage, deductibles, and any requirements for reimbursement before your first appointment.

How do I pay for my sessions?

Payment will be automatically deducted after each session through a card on file. American Express, Cash, Check, Discover, Health Savings Account, Mastercard, Visa are all accepted forms of payment.

How much does therapy cost?

Individuals and couples can anticipate a fee of $200 per a 50-60 minute session. Additional session time is billed.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

In the event you need to cancel an appointment, please reach out to Carol or her secretary at least 24 hours in advanced. Cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance, or not showing for a scheduled appointment, will result in a full session charge. Further details can be discussed at your first appointment.
